Not everyone has a 3,000 sq. ft. house that accommodates an eight-person dining table.
That’s right, some people have a 10,000 sq. ft. house with a 12 person dining table.
Not the direction you thought this was going, is it?
All kidding aside, when you have a small space and let’s face it, most of us have lived in tiny spaces, you don’t want to be crammed in yet you want to enjoy furniture options like larger homes.
I lived in small spaces for years. I liked it actually. It’s fun making it work. I sure had fun researching this article even though I have a bit more house than what would be considered “tiny”.
If you’re looking for some great small dining table options, we have you covered. See our diverse list and examples below.
We know that’s not every option available. It’s merely a smattering… but it’s a carefully selected smattering of the different types of small dining sets and tables you can get.

If you’re looking for a solid wood dining table, but don’t want to break the bank, Zinus’s new Becky Farmhouse Square Wood Dining Table is worth considering. At well under $300, it’s a solid, square table that can seat four people. In addition to being constructed from solid wood, its stylish white legs with natural table top would be a nice design fit in any small dining room or eat-in kitchen area. Love this.
This type of casual dining table is ideal for tiny spaces. You get a shelf and if it’s just one or two people in the space, this will work perfectly taking up a few sq. ft. at most. You can tuck this against a wall or it can be a small kitchen island that doubles as a place to eat in a small kitchen. Ideal for apartments, in-law suites, small condos and townhouses or if you just want a small dining area in your larger home.
Okay, not the most comfortable dining solution but it saves space. You only need 4 feet of wall space to put this up against and you have a dedicated area in your place for eating. After all, eating on the sofa all the time gets old. Sometimes it’s nice to have a dedicate place to eat.
But that’s not all – this nicely doubles as a drinks place in a game room or entertainment space.
This glass-top small dining table is modern and sophisticated. It’s a 5-piece collection containing a dining table with a glass top for an elegant touch and easy surface to put food & beverages
Durably made with a steel frame and seats with cushioned faux leather along with a curved backrest to help ensure a comfy place that lasts for a long time to come.
You can place this small dining table in a dinette area, kitchen eating area, or dining room. This dining table set seats up to 4 people with a rectangular table ideal for family-style dishes, dinner with friends (not a party though).
In the event of spills, the water-resistant, glass table allows the simplest cleanup potential; just wipe up them in only moments!
SPACE SAVER: Tuck the four seats in to get a streamlined design which makes this collection a perfect selection for the dining room of living spaces like an apartment, studio, and much more; TABLE DIMENSIONS: 47″(L) x 27.5″(W) x 30.75″(H); Chair Capacity: 250 lbs.; Table Capacity: 80 lbs.
This small glass and metal round dining table is not for everyone but if you like glam or chic, it’s a great fit. I totally see this looking amazing in a modern white-walled kitching/dining area in a small condo or eat-in kitchen in a larger house.
For the money, you get some design effort… curved legs and an interesting mirror that you can see through the glass table top.
Sorry, chairs not included but the bright side is that 4 people can fit around this option.
It’s definitely a space-saver coming in at 39.5″ wide and long and 29.5″ tall.
Every space saving table article needs at least one with drop-leafs like this one.
The leaves make it possible to slide up against a wall but when you need more table surface area you just pull it out and lift the leaves. Simple.
It’s 36″ wide and 36″ deep and rises 30″ in height.
Yes, it’s wood – made from birch. And yes, it comes in different colors.
Awwww, now that’s a cool small dining table. It butts up against a wall to save space yet provides enough dining area for two people.
No, you won’t host a dinner party on this table but it’s ideal for an eating space in a small apartment if you value style.
Made with walnut wood, it’s a decent quality. Size-wise it’s the typical 29.5″ tall which is ample height for regular dining chairs.
Speaking of charis, they aren’t included.
Let’s go industrial in style for your loft apartment or cutting edge interiors.
This small round counter-height industrial style dining table set is also perfect for small apartments or on the side in a game room. It definitely has a hipster pub vibe that works in all kinds of settings.
It’s Zinus Becky again. Yeah, I like this style and color pattern.
This is a tad bigger than the other Zinus Becky table we feature. A big bonus is this item comes with the two benches as well.
Okay, I’m not big on bench seating but it’s a space-saving feature because you can slide the benches under the table when not using it. While this isn’t necessary in a 3,000 sq. ft. house, it can make a big difference in a 450 sq. ft. condo.
It’s made with pine wood. It’s painted for country style interiors.
Looks bigger than it is but it’s one of the bigger small dining tables we’re featuring.
We want to provide a variety of small dining tables from tiny to space saving to smaller dining options.
This is one of those comfortable dining table sets with comfortable chairs and the chunky look that’s popular.
It looks solid and guess what? It is solid… solid wood that is.
Please note that the chairs aren’t included. Isn’t it annoying when they showcase a dining table with chairs, you order it and there are no chairs. I don’t like it but I get that it helps sell the table. So be warned that CHAIRS ARE NOT INCLUDED.
I don’t know if this some cool ultra modern dining table or some vintage ’50s diner table. Kinda fits both. Either way, I like this small dining table for four people as long as it’s in the right interior.
This is not going to work in a rustic or country style home.
But if you have a modern or glam style interior, this would look fabulous.
Again, according to the website – chairs NOT included.
Size: 31″ tall, 48″ long and 36″ wide… not the smallest we feature but definitely falls on the smaller end of the dining table size spectrum.
How’s that for space-saving design? Kind of clever. I don’t care for the look – too chunky for me but I appreciate the cleverness behind it. I really do. Moreover, it’s reasonably comfortable with solid seating and table.
This accommodates 4 people in a space-saving way. Tuck it against a wall or place it in the middle of small dining room.
What kind of wood is this made from? It’s manufactured wood. Sorry, it’s not cherry or mahogany. That would be nice but when you see the reasonable price, you’ll understand why it’s not real wood.
A simple list of small dining table examples is hardly enough.
I bet you have some questions about this space-saving dining concept. I know I did. Here’s some FAQ.
The first question is my favorite. Yes, it’s asked a lot…
What is a small dining table called?
Answer: a small dining table.
Haha, it’s also referred to as a space-saving dining set. If it’s tiny you want, it’s a TV dinner tray.
What table shape is best for a small space?
I prefer rectangle or square above round and oval by a country mile. Since this is one of those “what do you prefer” questions, I’m going to say rectangle or square. I like symmetry. In most instances where you have a square or rectangle room, a square or rectangle table is most efficient. It can slide up flush against a wall or in the corner saving even more space. Yup, “rectangle or square” is my final answer.
Do dining chairs have to fit under the table?
No, they don’t but if you want to save space it can help. You’ll notice that several small dining tables we feature include the ability to put the chairs/benches under the table.
Can you put a small round dining table on a rectangle rug?
Yes, you can. I like that look actually. Just be sure the rug is large enough to accommodate the table and chairs when people are seated at it. I don’t like sitting on dining chairs where the rear legs are off the rug and front legs on the rug.
Can you put a small round dining table in a rectangle dining room?
Yes, you can. If you couldn’t, round dining tables wouldn’t be as popular as they are because round rooms aren’t exactly all that common. I prefer rectangle or square tables but if you like round but have a rectangle dining room, get the round table. It’ll look just fine.
What are some dining table space-saving features?
Space-saving dining table features include leaves, tuck-under seating, kitchen island/table hybrid and any table that butts up flush against a wall.
Is a small kitchen table considered a small dining table?
Sure. I consider it a dining table. Whether you have a separate formal dining room table or in-kitchen dining, it’s a dining table.
